Mick Leahy, Director -- after his hole-in-one at Growling Frog Golf Club
Years in Travel industry: 33 years
Mick started in the travel industry with the ANZ Bank Travel department in 1976. He left the bank in 1981 and managed a friend’s travel agency in Altona until 1987, when he purchased Red and Black Travel in Essendon. In 1991 Red and Black Travel outgrew the small office in Napier Street and moved around the corner to Mt Alexander Road Essendon and became a Harvey World Travel franchise.
After owning his own business in the Essendon area for over 21 years, Mick decided to semi-retire in 2009 and sold his business to Rosemary at Harvey World Travel Niddrie.
During his time in the travel industry, Mick has escorted a number of golfing tours, including tours to interstate and international destinations.
Now working 2 days a week and developing his “Golfing Tours of Victoria” business, life is grand. He is still able to a keep a relationship with the clients from the Essendon office as well as develop new friends from clients at the Niddrie office.
Mick is also involved in golf at the Goonawarra Golf Club, where he is a member of the Board of Management and Course director. He has also been a member of the Rotary Club of Brunswick since 1990. Mick won two gold medals in the golf competition at the 2009 12th Australian Masters Games.
Favourite places: Mick has visited many countries in the 33 years in the travel industry, with his favourite destinations being Egypt, Italy, Tahiti, the Hawaiian Islands and South Africa.
His specialty is his passion — golfing tours.
